I’m from Venezuela, specifically from Zulia State. This region is characterized for it’s closeness to “La Guajira,” Wayuú Indigenous land; as you may imagine it is extremely common to see indigenous women proudly walking on the streets wearing their traditional “Manta Guajira.” The imagination and color of the “mantas Guajira” is not found in other indigenous culture it is very unique the way they combine and enhance colors in every piece.

I was very surprised when I found out about a new online store called “Thrifted and Modern”. They seriously have pieces that are very alike to the “Manta Guajira.” It was a great EtnoChic Finding. Here is another fashion twist made to the Wayuú outfit. In this case, Zulia designer Douglas Tapia designed a “Manta Guajira,” although miniskirt doesn’t suit the traditional Wayuú Attire; this design keeps the primal essence: It is still a square, without cuts or clamps and securely fastened at the waist with colorful accessories.
