I really can’t conceive how to work without exploring, searching and getting those creative ideas that wait for us in the Internet.
With all this RSS feed news I totally forgot the last day I flipped a newspaper but I’m more informed than ever! The power of connection makes us strong because we can now be informed and also makes us weak because we can easily be distracted. But when you search with purpose you can find great intentions…worthy to blog about them
Today, as I walked the cyber streets and socialized with those great friends and companies that I haven’t even met yet. I found a great story that I really want to share with you
.Who’s Beth? That could be a neighbor, a friend’s friend, a relative, or maybe a “future” you. It’s a “simple” well produced video trying to raise awareness about the issue of poverty in our country.
I came from a country were homelessness is so common that your eyes become fully accustomed to see kids sleeping on the streets, begging on the corners, and eating from the dumps.
I arrived to a country were lifestyle is so time consuming that there is no room for anyone else beside your work, career, getting stuff done and family.
The problem with poverty and homelessness is so massive that we became irrationally disconnected, especially in developing countries; where we believe that “there is no hope” and “we do not have the power to chance the situation when we are barely making it”. We have nurtured our mind with the wrong stereotypes that homeless are the drunker guys that ask to get druk{ER}; at some point in our life we stop believing that it’s our problem and let the government takes care of it!
In some point we forgot and became unfamiliar with the fact that “50% of homeless populations are families and children in a given year. 13% of families are homeless due to domestic violence. 39% of the homeless people are children under 18 (5% are unaccompanied youth)
Between 4-7% of youth will experience homelessness before their 18th birthday. Homelessness takes a toll on young children. For example, a child who has experienced homelessness experiences post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) at twice the rate of returning war veterans. ~taken from EndHomelessness.Change.org”
In a world were Internet and new media can be so useful but at the same time very distracting, non-profits and charities have to communicate more effectively.
People are tired of advertising and pushing methods of participation; and instead they are thirsty to be part of something. They are looking for transparency instead of perfection, collecting efforts instead of titanic infrastructures, be part of a movement instead of branding.
As I stated before the problem is so huge and outrageous that every single charity, nonprofit, ministry, etc; should go back to the roots and empower your vision.
~ STOP! GO BACK AND TELL YOUR DONOR THAT YOU ARE NOT DONE YET~
Make your content, testimonial and any communication plan based on your vision. WHY ARE WE DONG THIS? Let your employee breath in-out your vision, let your network embrace your vision; let the world, donors and volunteer understand that “your vision is the SOLUTION to a problem”.
STOP twittering here and there, facebooking to catch some random donors, searching without purpose and overlapping the lack of communication strategies with creative videos.
GO BACK to the basics and plan communication strategies that explain what must be done in the community where we live and what must be undone if you ceases to exist.
TELL YOUR DONOR that you don’t need their donation but their commitment. You don’t ask for money but for participation, because this is not your flight but everyone’s.
YOU ARE NOT DONE YET! Explain that there aren’t enough charities, non-profits, churches and ministries for the people that it still in need. Explain them that as big as you get you realize that you aren’t big enough. No because you want to be big but because the problem is so massive.
And for you guys that for some reason find my blog we need to be participatory and active in our social conscience of helping others. Not waiting to be called, asked and pushed but spontaneously endeavor ourselves to TAKE ACTIONS!
